Akureyri is the fourth largest town in Iceland.
We had less than eight hours in Akureyri (8:00 to 16:00). I wanted to show my parents and my sister the best sites in the area. But due to limited time and my parents’s limited mobility, I just couldn’t fit everything into the schedule.
We first went to Godafoss. It was raining and foggy when we arrived. I was a little disappointed. But before we were done, the rain let up and the sky cleared. The waterfall was so beautiful under the blue sky.

We even saw a rainbow when we left.

Since we didn’t have enough time to visit Dettifoss which was one of my favorite waterfalls in Iceland as it would take some time to drive there and also required some hiking, which my parents wouldn’t be able to do at a fast enough pace, I took them to Laufás Turf House instead. Turf houses were built back in the old days because of the difficult climate as well as lack of availability of timber. Turf also provided great insulation.

On our way back we could see our cruise ship across the fjord.

We still had some time left when we were back. So we wandered around the city. This brought back a lot of memories as we stayed here for a night last time I was in Iceland.

I got a little obsessed with the trash cans in Iceland 😂
