I took the train from Antwerp to Rotterdam to pick up my rental car. Since I had visited Rotterdam before, I didn’t plan to spend much time here. But I did want to see Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen, which is the first public accessible art depot in the world built after my last visit.
Coming out of the train station, this was how I remembered Rotterdam from my previous visit, a modern city with beautiful architecture.

Depot Boijmans Van Beuningen was about half an hour walk from the train station. It is a five-story building with a mirrored facade that reflects the surrounding park and cityscape and houses over 151,000 artworks and design objects, making it one of the largest art storage facilities in the world. It also won the prestigious 2021 RIBA Stirling Prize for architecture.

Sculpture across from the depot.

On my way back to the train station to pick up my car, I took a different street.

There’s a lovely little pond which was a nice surprise as I didn’t expect to see nature like this in a big modern city.
