We left Rotterdam early in the morning and drove to Zaanse Schans to see more windmills.

We got there very early so the village was very quiet and the shops weren’t even open.

There are eight windmills in Zaanse Schans and they are very different from the ones we saw at Kinderdijk. Most of these windmills were built between the 17th and 18th centuries and relocated here in the 1960s. Some of them are still in operation.

We also visited a shop selling Dutch clogs where we watched a wooden shoe making demonstration. It was quite interesting.

I personally find the windmills at Zaanse Schans less interesting than the ones at Kinderdijk. Maybe it is due to the fact that most of these windmills were relocated here so they didn’t look as “natural”. Or maybe it has something to do with the gloomy weather?
