I discovered this trail by chance while researching for something to do in the area. This was our only planned activity for the day, so we took our time, and enjoyed the complimentary breakfast at the hotel before making our way to the trailhead.
We followed Google Map directions to Ramsauer Malerweg, where there was a paid parking lot just a short walk from the start of the hike.
The hike starts from the Bavarian town of Ramsau, through the Zauberwald (Enchanted Forest), and circling the stunning alpine lake Hintersee, a favorite subject of many German Romantic artists. Along the route, we saw several paintings displayed at the exact spots where the artists painted them.
