Hallstatt, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, has been on my bucket list for a while. Since we are visiting a nearby town, I decided to include it in my itinerary for this trip.
We left Dubrovnik, flew to Vienna yesterday, and arrived at our hotel in Gosau late at night after a three-hour drive.
After a late breakfast this morning (7:30 am, which was considered late for us but that was the earliest they could do), we drove to Hallstatt and were immediately captivated by the picturesque town.
We took a walk along the lake, visiting several viewpoints.
There are several trails in the surrounding area, so I decided to go on a couple of hikes, combining the Echerntalweg and Zum Gletschergarten trails.
One of them led me to a viewpoint overlooking the lake.
The other led me to a waterfall and a creek.
The walk though the village was very quaint.
There were lots of wildflowers along the way.
Afterward, we took the funicular to Skywalk and spent some time admiring the stunning view of the lake.
Instead of taking the funicular again, we decided to hike back to the village.
It was an easy walk with plenty of views along the way.
When we left around 11 am, our parking lot (P2) was completely full, even though it wasn’t high season yet.
We enjoyed it so much that we returned at dusk for another visit. This was definitely one of the highlights of our trip.
