Cinque Torri (Five Towers) is renowned for its five iconic rock formations that rise from the surrounding landscape. There were two options for me to visit Cinque Torri, either take the chairlift to Rifugio Scoiattoli, hike for about 3.6 miles, or skip the chairlift and hike the entire 7.3-mile trail with a lot more elevation gain instead.

My original plan was to take the chairlift to save time and energy. But since I finished the Lake Sorapis hike much earlier than planned, I had a lot of time left and decided to do the long hike to save the €20 for the round trip chairlift ticket.

I was surprised by how pleasant the hike was.

There was even a lake on the way.

And the elevation gain was relatively mild.

The view as I approached Rifugio Averau was great as well.

From Rifugio Averau to Rifugio Nuvolau was another uphill hike. But the views were unbeatable.

From Rifugio Nuvolau, you get 360° incredible view of the Dolomites.

After a brief stay at Rifugio Nuvolau, I traced my way down to Rifugio Averau and headed to Cinque Torri.

Cinque Torri is also an open-air museum, with trenches and bunkers that remain from World War I.

Leaving Cinque Torri.

The hike took longer than I expected because I took my time enjoying the scenery. I was glad I didn’t take the chairlift, or I’d have missed out on a lot of great views.
