Bruges

I woke up around 2:00 am PST Wednesday to get ready. I wasn’t able to sleep during the flight and immediately started exploring when I arrived in Brussels. By the time I was ready for bed, it was already 11:00 pm (2 pm PST) Thursday which means I had not slept for 36 hours.

But all the excitement from delayed flights kept me awake. I woke up at 4 am and was out of the door by 7 am.

I stayed in Bruges last night and one of these m. It was in the center of town and very convenient.

Ezelpoort (Donkey’s Gate) is one of the four remaining medieval cities gates of Bruges.

Beguinage “Ten Wijingaerde” was founded in 1245 and was once the home of the beguines, emancipated lay-women who nevertheless led a pious and celibate life. Today the beguinage is inhabited by nuns of the Order of St. Benedict and several Bruges women who have decided to remain unmarried.

The historical center of Bruges is a UNESCO Heritage Site. But it’s a small town so it didn’t take long to walk to all the sites I was interested in. I was able to finish everything early and decided to take an earlier train out of town.
