Amber Cove is a private port destination exclusively for ships under the Carnival Corp.

Since there was no rental cars and no public transportation near the port, we hired a driver for $130 (good for 4-5 people, plus tips) for the day.
He first took us to a local village. There wasn’t much to see. But we passed a local fire station that I found interesting. I couldn’t tell if there was a fire truck anywhere. But the firefighter (I assume he was the firefighter) was sitting outside looking bored.

After spending some time checking out the local village, we headed to Puerto Plata. I read somewhere that this was the birthplace of tourism in the Dominican Republic.
Our first stop was umbrella street. There are many umbrella streets in the world. After all these years, I finally got to visit my very first one.

Pink Ally is only a minute walk from umbrella street.

Then we walked/drove around the city for a bit.

Here’s a much better looking fire station!

City view.

We visited a couple of beaches but honestly they were not very impressive.

Back to the ship.

Views from the ship as we left the port.

We had some nice tropical fruits on the ship tonight.
