After I returned to Pisa from Cinque Terre, I still had a few hours left. Before going to the airport to catch my flight to London later at night, I took a detour to visit the Leaning Tower.

The Leaning Tower is a freestanding bell tower built over a period of almost 200 years, starting in 1173 and finishing in 1399. It currently leans at an angle of about 4 degrees.

I first visited the Leaning Tower in 2013. But I only had time to visit the grounds (Cathedral Square) back then. This time I decided to climb the tower. So I went to buy a ticket and check my backpack.

Inside the Leaning Tower.

The tower has eight floors and a spiral staircase with 296 steps leading to the top. But for some reason I only counted 253 steps.

The bells on top of the tower.

In addition to the Leaning Tower, I also visited Pisa Cathedral.

Also visited the Camposanto (cemetery).

After that, It was just a short walk back to the airport.
