Passage du Gois is a causeway between Beauvoir-sur-Mer and the island of Noirmoutier in France. It’s about 4 km long and is flooded twice a day by the high tide and only accessible during low tide (1-1/2 hrs before and 1-1/2 hrs after). It seems like a very exciting place to drive when the road is flooded with water from videos others posted online. So I wanted to experience it myself.
To be safe, I decided to be there when the tide was high enough for a fun drive but also receding to make sure I wouldn’t be submerged in water if I couldn’t make it out in time, although it was very unlikely. So I looked up the tide schedule and timed my arrival to about 1-1/2 hrs before low tide to allow myself the most amount of time needed.

I arrived a few minutes early and wasn’t sure if it was safe to drive it. I also saw some people sitting at the bank on the side of the road and assumed they were waiting for the tide. So I parked my car and waited too.
I waited too long until I saw some other cars driving though and decided to follow. The water was already very low but it was still a fun drive.
Part of the road could be seen under the water.
I drove all the way to the other end of the road and back. It didn’t take long. But by the time I was back, the water had receded more.
As the water receded, the road was surrounded by wetlands.
It was getting late and I still had a lot planned for the day. So it was time to hit the road.
