It was quite a night last night.
I went out to our balcony to watch the sunset but changed my mind immediately because it was too windy. The balcony door made a piercing sound after I closed it and it just wouldn’t stop (because of the wind). We called for help and someone came but took great effort to finally completely close the door and stopped the sound.
When I was brushing my teeth before bed, I could feel the ship rocking. It was very hard to stand still.
Soon after we went to sleep, the balcony door started making the piercing sound again. We tried several times to re-close it but still weren’t able to stop the sound. So we called for help again in the middle of the night. They had to use three layers of masking tape to seal the door and told us a lot of cabins had the same issue.
Even though the door was fixed, the situation was getting worse. We heard loud bangs every few minutes and then the ship would shake like having an earthquake. The wave outside was so high it was taller than our floor (We were on the 5th floor).
I felt nauseated. I never had motion sickness before and actually had always enjoyed the feeling of being rocked back and forth. But this time it was different. I felt so sick I couldn’t even sleep. I ended up throwing up three times.
I asked for some motion sickness pills at the medical center in the early morning and finally was able to feel better.
Our port of call today was Isafjordur. I was looking forward to it because I wasn’t able to visit here last time I was in Iceland. Just when we were about the get ready for disembarking, we heard the announcement that today’s port of call was cancelled due to increment weather.
It was an extremely long day for me on day one. I was up at 4am on Wednesday (8/17, LA time) and had hardly slept (maybe 1 or 2 hrs on the plane) for 38 hours by the time I went to bed on Thursday night (8/18, Iceland time) but I was only able to sleep for about four hours. Then I hardly slept again last night due to motion sickness. So I spent most of the day catching up on sleep.
Besides sleep, the only other thing we were able to do was eat. And that’s all the pictures I have for today 😂.
