The hike:
Around two weeks before we were about to start our Iceland cruise trip, the Fagradalsfjall Volcano near Reykjavik erupted. My sister and I were looking forward to seeing the eruption in person after seeing the photos and videos people posted online.
So after we had a quick lunch on the cruise ship, we set out for the hike.
It was about half an hour drive to the parking lot.
There were two trails to see the eruption. From online research, it seemed route A was better than Route C. But most people seemed to be taking route C. I was a little confused but decided to go with the flow at first but soon went back and forth a few times until we finally decided to still go with the original plan of hiking route A.
The hike was fairly easy. But there were lots of people.

We passed some lava fields. There was no longer red lava but we could still see the steam.

There were also lava fields that were already cooled down and safe to walk on. We saw some people on them but we were more interested in seeing the red hot lava so we kept going.

And finally, the eruption!

Since it had been almost two weeks since the eruption started, we could hardly seen any flowing red lava now. But the eruption itself was still a sight to see. This was the first time I was able to see an eruption up close.
